Monday: coffee, a walk and the road back

Choose your Fernie walk below. These driving routes take you to the park or trailhead, then continue through the optional road-trip stops to Calgary. Walks and hikes are separate; Google’s drive time won’t include them. Skip either road-trip stop in Maps if you’d rather go straight home.

Use your Calgary address as the final destination. The links currently end in Calgary city centre. Check Google’s pins and route before setting off.

        White Birch Cafe & Bistro

        Official details ↗

Start your last morning with coffee and pastries at White Birch. Have something to eat before heading out for one more walk, or keep the morning slow if that’s more your kind of getaway.

        Elk River or Montane Hut

        Official details ↗

For the shorter option, start at Annex Park and follow the riverside pathway for as long as you like. For Montane Hut via Easy Beaver, start at the Montane trailhead and allow 2–3 hours for roughly 7 km return. Start earlier if you’re leaving around noon, bring water and check trail conditions.

        Optional · Crowsnest Pass

Make a stop at Frank Slide

If you’ve got time on the way back, stop at Frank Slide Interpretive Centre to learn about the rockslide and see the landscape it left behind. It’s open October 12, 2026, from 10 am to 5 pm. From October 13, it’s closed Mondays and open Tuesday–Sunday, 10 am–5 pm. Adult admission is currently $18. Skip the centre on a later Monday rather than planning around a closed attraction.

        Optional · After Crowsnest Pass

A waterfall stop at Lundbreck Falls

Want a little more fresh air before the rest of the drive? Lundbreck Falls is another stop to add after Crowsnest Pass. Use the day-use area for your visit and check Alberta Parks for current advisories. Bring drinking water and take care around wet or icy surfaces. This is an extra stop, so allow time beyond the usual drive.

        Final stop · Calgary

Back to Calgary, with a few extra memories

Aim to leave Fernie around noon if that suits your checkout, then decide how much of the drive you want to turn into a road trip. The usual drive is about 3 hours 15 minutes; walking, attraction visits and detours add to that. Skip the optional stops whenever you need a more direct trip home.
