3:30 pm · Arrive
Welcome to Fernie
Aim to get into town around 3:30 pm so you’re not rushing straight from the car to your evening plans. Drop your bags, settle in and head downtown when you’re ready. If you’re booking the fall offer, choose one of the participating package stays below.
Start at The Rumour Mill’s upstairs lounge for something to eat and drink. It fits the cozy evening we’re going for, and you don’t need to pack much more into your first night. Check their hours and book a table for your dates.

Your Sunday route
The Loaf → Coal Town Goods → Green Petal → H Squared Gallery → Elk River Trail at Dogwood Park → Spa 901 → Vogue Theatre (optional). Open the route to see the stops together and get walking directions.
It feels like a Hallmark movie set: quaint, cute and unmistakably local. The early-1900s brick and stone buildings, murals and old painted signs add to it. The shops are local, with no cookie-cutter souvenirs like in Banff. Stop into Coal Town Goods, Green Petal and H Squared Gallery. There's lots of free street parking.
3:00 pm · Fall trail
Elk River Trail · Dogwood Park
Crunchy leaves, the river and mountain views, with golden larches. Bring a warm fall jacket and a tripod.

Monday: coffee, a walk and the road back
Choose your Fernie walk below. These driving routes take you to the park or trailhead, then continue through Lundbreck Falls to Calgary. Walks and hikes are separate; Google’s drive time won’t include them. Skip Lundbreck Falls in Maps if you’d rather go straight home.
An easy riverside ride from Annex Park. Montane Hut via Easy Beaver, about 7 km return, is the longer walking option; allow 2–3 hours and check trail conditions.
Optional · Drive home
A waterfall stop at Lundbreck Falls
Lundbreck Falls is a good stop on the drive back. Stretch your legs and take in the falls before continuing to Calgary.
Aim to leave Fernie around noon if that suits your checkout, then decide how much of the drive you want to turn into a road trip. The usual drive is about 3 hours 15 minutes; walking, attraction visits and detours add to that. Skip the optional stops whenever you need a more direct trip home.

Want to add something else?
Staying longer, travelling with the kids or looking for a rainy-day plan? Here are a few other options to look into. We haven’t visited these on this trip, but they give you a little more choice. Choose a day below to add one to your route. You can move or remove stops in that day’s route editor.
Big Bang Bagels
Fancy a bagel instead? Take a look at Big Bang Bagels for breakfast or a lunch stop downtown.
Travelling with younger kids? Check the Fernie Aquatic Centre’s public-swim schedule as an option instead of the 16+ spa. Check facility notices and supervision rules before heading over.
Fernie is about 3 hours and 15 minutes from Calgary. Leave a little extra time for a coffee stop and any weather along the way. Before you set off, check Alberta 511 and DriveBC so you know what the roads are doing.
Book your spa session first, then work the rest of Sunday around it. Check restaurant and shop hours for your dates, especially over a holiday weekend. For the gift card, book the qualifying stay directly and send in your claim at least 72 hours before check-in.
Bring layers, a rain jacket, comfortable walking shoes and a swimsuit for the spa. If you’re doing the hut walk, add water and what you need for the trail conditions. Check the forecast before packing—October and November can look quite different.
For your budget: the spa is currently $94 for two, before any extra charges. Add your room, food, fuel and any shopping. All prices here are in Canadian dollars; check the final total when booking.
